Norwalk Municipal Court was established in 1976. The court has jurisdiction in all of Huron County except for Lyme and Sherman Townships. Judge John S. Ridge presides over all cases filed in the court. The court handles all traffic and criminal misdemeanors committed within its jurisdiction. The court holds initial and preliminary hearings for felony cases where an alleged crime has been committed. Traffic and criminal initial appearance hearings are held on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in Norwalk Municipal Court, and 1:30 p.m. in Willard. The Civil Division has original jurisdiction only in those cases where the amount claimed by any party does not exceed fifteen thousand dollars, exclusive of interests and costs. The Small Claims Division has a monetary limit not to exceed three thousand dollars, exclusive of interest and costs. |
