Norwalk Fire Department

The Norwalk Fire Department provides the basic fire protection services for the citizens of Norwalk, Norwalk Township and Bronson Township. The total coverage area encompasses 50 square miles and is mostly suburban residential and light industrial. We enjoy an ISO class 4 rating which we are continually trying to upgrade.

We average 1,000 calls a year with our activity covering the following areas: firefighting, extrication, entrapment, trench and confined space rescue, high and low angle rescue, hazardous material technician response, rapid water rescue, a complete fire inspection program, an active fire prevention program, building plan review, and first responder basic life support using the most up-to-date training and equipment available.

Norwalk Fire Department is a member of the NFPA, IAFC, OAPFC, OAPFF, BOCA, Northwestern Ohio Firefighters Association and the Huron County Firefighters Association. We are a full-time fire department with 17 full-time state certified firefighters. We were the first department in the State of Ohio utilizing InfraRed technology on all structure fires. We operate with Class A and Class B foam on our first due apparatus.

Our equipment inventory consists of a 95' Grumman Aerial Cat, a 1500 GPM Grumman Attack Pumper, a 1250 GPM Boardman Pumper-Tanker, a 1250 GPM Ward LaFrance, 2,000 Gallon tanker and a GMC 4X4 brush rescue vehicle. We have several support implements including Cairns IRIS, Class A and B foam, Haz-Mat trailer for technician level response, along with other vehicles to support sustained operations. Several members of the department are qualified instructors and we offer our industries many fire brigade and life safety training programs throughout the year.
