Storm Water Management Program

The City of Norwalk has been designated as a city that must apply for a permit and develop and submit a Notice of Intent and a Storm Water Management Program.  The City is developing a program for managing storm water and will submit it to the Ohio EPA.

Best management practices are being developed in six minimum control areas.The areas covered are:

Public Education and Outreach
Public Involvement and Participation
Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
Construction Site Storm Water Runoff Control
Post-Construction Storm Water Management
Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations

The City will be implementing numerous changes in the next five-year period to initiate the changes identified in the initial program.

Public meetings will be held.
Presentations will be made to civic groups and the schools in the city.
Signage will be developed and placed at strategic locations throughout the city.
Septic systems in the city will be identified and monitored for compliance with the standards.
Construction sites will be monitored for compliance with the new regulations.
Illicit discharges will be identified and work will commence on eliminating these discharges.

Yearly reports will need to be drafted and submitted to the Ohio EPA to ensure that the city is complying with these new regulations
