The City of Norwalk
Small town living at its best!

With a population of 16,000 people, a location midway between Cleveland and
Toledo, and a 20 minute drive to Lake Erie, our residents experience the comfort
and safety of small town life with easy access to the jobs and entertainment of
major metropolitan areas.
Norwalk is:
The Maple City
Today’s beautiful tree-lined streets are a tribute to the City’s founder
Platt Benedict who planted maple trees along Main Street in 1830.
A Kids’ Place
From our two excellent school systems to our many parks and first-rate
recreational programs and facilities, Norwalk is a great place to raise a
family.
A Community of Neighbors
Norwalk is a front porch community, where neighbors know each other by
name and stop to visit on a warm spring day. Our people are involved, volunteering for city projects and coaching little league.
Beautifully Historic
Established in 1817, Norwalk boasts the “most architecturally-diverse
historic district in the State of Ohio.” From the beautifully renovated homes on
West Main Street to the historic uptown area, the City is steeped in tradition.
An Ohio Main Street Community
Our revitalized uptown area is a vibrant and growing business district
with a commitment to preserving the unique physical, historic, and cultural
characteristics of our community.
The Home of Innovation and Entrepreneurs
Many diverse businesses got their start and make their home here.
Norwalk was the birthplace of “Body by Fisher” of GM fame, AB Chase Pianos, and
Harry Bennett (colleague to Thomas Edison and Henry Ford). Today Norwalk is
still home to manufacturers such as Norwalk Custom Order Furniture, a major US furniture
manufacturer and is the “cradle of contractors” for heavy-highway construction.
